Abdim’s Stork (White-bellied Stork)
The Abdim’s Stork or White-bellied Stork (Ciconia abdimii) is a large black bird resident to East Africa, from Ethiopia south to South Africa.
Although large at up to 32 inches long, it is the smallest of the storks. It has grey legs, red knees and feet, gray bill and white under parts. It has red facial skin in front of the eye and blue skin near the bill in breeding season. Females are slightly smaller than the male.
This stork’s diet consists mainly of locusts, caterpillars and other large insects.
