Liliensternus is a genus of dinosaur from the Late Triassic Period (215 to 200 million years ago). It was discovered in Germany in 1934 and named for the German scientist Dr. Hugo Rühle von Lilienstern. The type species is L. liliensterni. A second species recovered has since been given separate genus status.
Liliensternus was about 17 feet long and weighed up to 280 pounds. It may have preyed upon herbivorous dinosaurs such as Plateosaurus.
