American Curl

The American Curl gets its name from its unusual ears, which curl back from its face toward the center of the back of the skull. The breed originally was the result of a spontaneous mutation which occurred when two longhaired kittens, one white and one black, were bred.

The American Curl is a medium sized cat weighing about five to ten pounds. It is strong and healthy and remarkably free from most genetic defects. These cats take a while to mature, two to five years, and even their ears aren’t fully “matured” at birth. These cats are actually born with straight ears which begin to curl within the first ten days. Their ears will stop curling when they are around four months old. Show cats must have their ears curled in 90-180 degree arc.

American Curls have silky soft coats that lie flat against their bodies and require little grooming.
