King Charles Spaniel

The King Charles Spaniel, also called the English Toy Spaniel is a small companion breed. It is sometimes confused with the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel; the King Charles Spaniel is a separate, more pug-like breed. The breed originated in Great Britain during the Renaissance and was often used as a companion dog for royalty. The earlier dogs with longer snouts were crossed with the Pug or the Chin in order to achieve the shorter nose the breed has today.

The King Charles Spaniel weighs around 11 pounds and has a fairly long, wavy coat. The coat of the King Charles Spaniel can be red and white, tricolor, black and tan, or ruby.

The breed generally lives from 10 to 12 years, but it may have health problems such as heart defects, patellar luxation, fused toes, and eye problems.
