Warlander Horse

The Warlander is a breed of horse that originated in Europe and originally developed in the 1600s as a war horse. Although the Warlander has been around for centuries, it wasn’t recognized as a distinct breed until the 1990s.

There are no organizations except the Bavarian Specialist Breed Registry that has a stud book for the Warlander.

The Warlander was developed by crossing the Andalusian horse and Friesian horse  to produce an intelligent and flexible breed. It has a muscular build with strong quarters and dramatic leg actions.

Recently, questions have arisen to whether the Warlander will suffer from interbreeding depression from Warlander-Warlander, Warlander-Andalusian or Warlander-Friesian breeding and possibly revert back to the qualities of the older breed.
