Bobtail snipe eel

The Bobtail snipe eels are two species of deep-sea fish in the family Cyematidae, one only in each of two Genera. They are small elongated fish, growing up to 6.3 in (16 cm) long.

They are bathypelagic (deep-water ocean-dwellers) and have been found at depths of 3.11 mi (5,000 m). They are found in all oceans.

J. S. Nelson classifies them with the true eels in the order Anguilliformes, but FishBase classifies them with the gulper eels in the order Saccopharyngiformes.

Cyema atrum is black, while Neocyema erythrosoma is bright red.
