Blue Skimmer, Orthetrum caledonicum

The blue skimmer (Orthetrum caledonicum) is a species of dragonfly that can be found in Australia. Its range includes Tasmania, New Guinea, and the Sunda and Loyalty Islands. It can be found near many temporary and permanent freshwater sources. It reaches an average body length of two inches, with an average wingspan of three inches. The coloring of this species varies depending upon the sex, with adult males holding a powdery blue thorax and abdomen and adult females holding a brownish grey color.
