Silvery Mole Rat, Heliophobius argenteocinereus

The silvery mole rat (Heliophobius argenteocinereus), also known as the silky mole rat or silvery blesmol, is a mole rat that appears in many areas of Africa including southern Kenya, central Malawi and Mozambique, parts of southeastern Zaire, and throughout Tanzania. The only subspecies listed under the genus Heliophobius, the silvery mole rat is an unsociable animal, and very aggressive. Little is known about its behaviors and ecology, but it prefers to inhabit savannah areas and woodlands within its range. The silvery mole rat has a conservation status of “Least Concern”.
