The crested mangabey is a genus of Old World monkey called Lophocebus. These mangabeys are dark in color, with crowns of black fur on the tops of their heads. Previously, the crested mangabey and its six species were classified with a now separate genus of mangabeys called Cercocebus. After studies resulted in evidence that the Lophocebus species were more closely related to baboons than the Cercocebus genus, the two were separated.
