Cliff Chipmunk, Neotamias dorsalis
The cliff chipmunk (Neotamias dorsalis) is a bushy-tailed squirrel native to Mexico and western United States. It prefers habitats within boulder fields that frame pinyon-juniper woodlands or within cliff sides. They can often be seen scaling the cliffs, and are very adept at climbing. Instead of reserving fat for the winter, these chipmunks will store food in caches. The cliff chipmunk appears on the IUCN Red List with a conservation status of “Least Concern”.
