The Rainbow Boa or Slender Boa (Epicrates cenchria), is a non-venomous species of boa found in Central and South America. In central America it is found in Costa Rica and Panama. It is more widespread in South America. It is shy and nocturnal. Its habitat includes rivers, streams, lakes and swamps. Nine subspecies are recognized.
Adults grow to between 39 and 75 inches in length. It is known for its multi-colored iridescent sheen when seen in sunlight. The various subspecies are distinguished from each other by their markings and the regions where they are found. It is quite rare to find two subspecies occupying the same region.
