The European Shorthair originated in Sweden, and is one of the oldest and most common breeds of cat. However, surprisingly, the breed was not standardized until recently and is not often recognized.
European Shorthairs are often referred to as a Bondkatt (Farmer’s cat in Swedish), because of the fact that they do not have a pedigree and therefore can not be recognized by the official name.
