Tohoku Mathematical Journal

The Tohoku Mathematical Journal is a research journal published by Tohoku University in Japan. The journal was founded in August 1911 by Tsuruichi Hayashi. Publication of the journal was stopped in 1943 due to World War II. But after nearly 6 years, in 1949, publication resumed.

With the resurrection of the publication in 1949, the journal restarted the volume process back at 1, instead of continuing from volume 49 in 1943 onto volume 50 in 1949. In order to distinguish between identical numbered volumes, volumes in the second publishing period were called second series (the first volumes were considered first series).
