Cloud Formation

Evaluating one way of how clouds can form. To understand this method it’s important to understand a few terms.

The first one is Cloud Condensation Nuclei. The CCN can consist of anything from dust, dirt, salt anything that is floating in the air.

The second thing is moisture. There must be moisture present in the atmosphere to condense on the CCN to form a droplet.

Next step to the process is what is known as collision and coalescence. This is the process of many CCN’s running into each other and colliding. Then the particles will usually bounce of each other and continue to float through the atmosphere until they run into each other again.

The second time they run into each other there may be one particle that is larger than the other. When this happens the little CCN will get absorbed by the larger CCN, this is known as coalescence.

This process is constantly going on until many particles start to combine together and get rather large creating a cloud in the atmosphere. The cloud will continue to grow until it’s too heavy for the surrounding air then it will begin to sink in the form of precipitation. This is just one process of the Cloud formation.
