Golden Cereus, Bergerocactus emoryi

The Golden Cereus is a species of cactus, and the sole member of the genus Bergerocactus. It is named after Alwin Berger. Other common names are golden spine cereus or snake cactus. Sometimes the name snake cactus also applies for Echinocereus pensilis.

The plant is small and frail compared to other cacti. It only reaches heights of up to 3 feet, and a diameter of 2 inches. It appears in clusters and has up to 20 ribs and ramifications. Tiny, tunnel-shaped yellow flowers grow near the plant’s apex.

Coastal southern California and Baja California make a suitable native climate for this plant.
