Gastrolobium melanopetalum, a member of the Fabaceae family, is an indigenous shrub of Southwest Australia. Growing up to 10 feet in height, it features narrow leaves measuring 0.5 – 2.33 inches in length and .15 to .8 inches in width. Deep purple hanging pea-flowers bloom in spring and summer. This shrub grows in dense vegetation near waterways. While many members of the Gastrolobium family are poisonous, the toxicity of this plant is unknown.
