Crested Ibis
The Crested Ibis (Nipponia nippon), also known as the Japanese Crested Ibis or Toki, was formerly found throughout Japan, China, Korea, Taiwan and Russia. It is now disappeared from most of its former range. The remaining world population can be found only in Shaanxi province of China. Their habitat is usually found in mainlands and wetlands.
The Crested Ibis is large, up to 31 inches long, with white plumage. Its red skin head is partially bare with a dense crest of white plumes on the nape.
They make their nests at the top of trees on hills usually overlooking their habitat. Crested Ibis usually eat frogs, small fishes, and small animals.
This species is on the brink of extinction due to habitat loss, population size, limited range and winter starvation and is listed in Appendix I of CITES.
