Cream-colored Courser
The Cream-colored Courser (Cursorius cursor) is a species of wading bird found in the Canary Islands, north Africa and southwest Asia. The habitat of this species is dry open country, preferably semi-desert. They are partially migratory, with northern and northwestern birds wintering in India, Arabia and across the southern edge of the Sahara. Though rare in the north of their range, this species has occurred as far away as Finland, Ireland and Great Britain.
This bird has long legs and long wings. It has a slightly downward curved bill. Its body plumage is sandy in color, fading to whitish on the lower belly. The upperwing primary feathers and underwings are black. The crown and nape are gray. There is a black eye stripe and white eyebrow.
The diet of the Cream-colored Courser consists of mainly insects which it hunts for by running on the ground. The female lays two eggs in a ground scrape. This bird has a relaxed flight with soft wing beats.
