Atlascopcosaurus

Atlascopcosaurus or “Atlas Copco lizard” is a genus of dinosaur from the Early Cretaceous Period that lived in what is now Australia. The type species, A. loadsi, was discovered at Dinosaur Cove in Victoria, Australia. It was named after the Atlas Copco Company who had provided equipment for the expedition that discovered the dinosaur in 1984. 85 fossil bone fragments were found. Atlas Copco’s equipment helped excavate more than 190 feet of tunnel over ten years in search of more dinosaur fossils.

Atlascopcosaurus was between 6.5 and 10 feet in length and weighed about 275 pounds. Not much is known about this dinosaur, as only incomplete remains have been discovered, mostly the portions of the jaw and teeth. The type species, A. loadsi, is named for William Loads, the state manager for Atlas Copco at the time, who aided the expedition during the dig.
