The Portuguese Cattle Dog, also known as the Cão de Castro Laboreiro is a Molosser type dog which originated in the northern part of Portugal, in a village called Castro Laboreiro. It is a favorite police dog for Portuguese authorities. The breed is large, standing 21 to 27 inches high.
The Portuguese Cattle Dog is incredibly intelligent and makes an excellent guide dog as well as guard dog. It is very protective of its family or its herd.
