Cobbled Starfish, Calliaster baccatus
The cobbled starfish (Calliaster baccatus) is a species of starfish that is classified within the Goniasteridae family. It can be found along the South African Coast in a range that extends from Port Elizabeth to Lambert Bay. It prefers a habitat in rocky areas at depths between 29.5 and 75.4 feet. This species can reach an average diameter of 7.8 inches and has a thick, irregularly shaped body. The center of its upper body is covered in rough granules and its arms hold square plates that can sometimes have extended granules. There is nothing known about its eating or reproductive behaviors.
