Pampas Deer

The Pampas Deer, Ozotocerus bezoarticus, is a species of deer native to South America. It is found in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Uruguay and
Paraguay. They live in open habitats. They are brown colored when adult. Adult males have narrow antlers with two or three branches and they also have scent glands on their hooves to mark their territories. Fawns are spotted. It is listed as a vulnerable species according to CITES*, appendix 1. Cattle and sheep ranching on the Pampas has been the main cause of population decline.
