The Xperia is a smartphone that has been manufactured by Sony since 2008 and accounts for half of the company’s mobile phone sales. The name was originated from the word experience with the first model the Xperia X1 and its motto “I Xperia the best.”

The X1 was manufactured to close the gap on other smart devices produced by the competition. It was released in October 2008, and used the Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system (OS). In September 2009, Xperia X2 was released using Windows Mobile 6.5 OS. It has a 8.1 mp camera, Wi-Fi, and GPS.

The next generation Xperia phones were released using the Android OS. The first was the X10, in March 2010, followed by fifteen versions of the Xperia released from May 2010, the X10 mini, to late 2011 with the Xperia active. All used the Android OS and part of the Sony Ericsson Line. The early produced phones used Android 1.6, which was outdated as the competitors were using 2.1.

Early in 2011, with the release of the Xperia arc, Android 2.3 and 4.0 was used. Two later versions were released in the Japanese market using Android 2.3.7 in early 2012.

Depending on the model the display size ranges from 2.55 inches on the Xperia X10 Mini, to 4.3 inches on the LT26i; includes either a touchscreen, or a slide out QWERTY keypad; from 168 MB of RAM in the Xperia X8, to 1GB Ram in the LT26i. Storage ranges from 320 MB in several models, to 1 GB on a few other models. All models feature a rear camera ranging in mp from 3.2 on the Xperia X8 to 12 on the LT26i; only a few models had a front camera.

The Xperia line featured wet finger tracking, with floating touch, a mobile bravia engine, with white magic, a clear back panel, opti-contrast panel, and a no-air-gap screen. Audio features are xLoud experience, clear audio, clear audio plus, and clear bass. The camera features are exmor and exmor RS for mobile, superior auto, 3D sweep panorama, fast capture, and sleep-to-snap.

The Xperia Z is the latest model released mid February 2013 in the UK; other areas were to follow. Its features put this phone on or near the top of the smartphone industry. It is also water proof for 30 minutes submerged in 3 feet of water.

Camera and video:

13 mp Exmor RS camera with Auto focus and Burst Mode with 16x digital zoom, HDR for both picture and movie, face detection, flash/pulsed LED and Photo light, and the front-facing camera is a 2 MP 1080p Exmor R. With many other features as well.

Display and design:

It has a 5-inch capacitive touchscreen with on-screen QWERTY keyboard at 16,777,216 color TFT, Sony Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2, Scratch-resistant, shatter proof sheet on mineral glass and, screenshot capturing.

Preloaded applications:

Google Chrome, Google Play, Google search, Google Voice Search, Google Maps for Mobile with Street-view and Latitude, Web browser, and Google Talk application.

Memory:

The RAM is 2GB, with up to 16 GB of internal storage and an expansion slot for a microSD card with up to 32 GB of external storage.

Entertainment:

It has 3D surround sound, album art, Bluetooth capability, a walkman application, 3D games, Facebook application, Twitter, You Tube and more.
