The Mir Space Station
During its 15 years in orbit, the Russian Mir Space Station became a significant chapter in the history of space exploration. Mir was a record-breaking achievement of human ingenuity.
The Russian Space Agency guided Mir back to Earth on March 23rd, 2001. Fragments from the massive complex splashed down in the south Pacific ocean just as ground controllers had planned — it was a flawless maneuver. No one was hurt.
