Word of the Day
balow
  • An utterance used in lulling to sleep.
  • A lullaby.
  • A song containing this word.
'Balow' may be an alteration 'Bas le loup!,' (down! there the wolf), from an old French lullaby. However, the OED says this is only conjecture.
Quote of the Day
There are no physicists in the hottest parts of hell, because the existence of a "hottest part" implies a temperature difference, and any marginally competent physicist would immediately use this to run a heat engine and make some other part of hell comfortably cool. This is obviously impossible.
