This is a photographic illustration of how the flag of the United States will be implanted on the moon by the Apollo 11 astronauts. The flag is three by five feet, and is made of nylon. It will be erected on an eight-foot aluminun staff, and tubing along its top edge will unfurl it in the airless environment of the moon. The photograph on the right shows the flag in a furled condition. Posted on: 28 Apr, 2003
