Nicosia, capital of the island of Cyprus is visible in this SPOT image. The city has been capital since Cyprus gained independence in 1960 and has been divided into Turkish and Greek zones since 1974. This boundary runs through the old city which is identified by the circular structure, north center of the image. The cathedral of Saint Sophia can be seen within this area.
