This MEdium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MERIS) image is centered over the north east coast of the United States of America, from the state of New York (north) to the state of Virginia (south). Visible, starting from the top right are the cities of the New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington D.C. and Richmond, which appear as light grey areas. On the center left of the image are the Blue Ridge and Allegheny Mountain ranges. The dark blue patches along the coast correspond to sedimentation transported down by the rivers. Bands 7 (red), 5 (green), and 2 (blue), corresponding to visible light, were used to create this image.
