GALEX First Light - FUV

This is the first image obtained after launch with the GALEX Far ultraviolet (FUV) detector.

Although the exposure time for this image was only 200 seconds, more then 400 ultraviolet sources are detected. The sources are stars in our Milky Way galaxy and distant galaxies. Posted on: 19 Apr, 2005
