The subcontinent of India features prominently in this image acquired on November 18, 2005.

The Northern and Northeastern borders of the country are formed by the Himalayas, just off of the edge of this image. To the West lies the Arabian Sea, while to the East is the Bay of Bengal; both are a part of the India Ocean.

The country borders Pakistan to the Northwest, China, Nepal, and Bhutan to the North and Northeast, and Bangladesh and Myanmar (formerly known as Burma) to the East. The island countries of the Maldives and Sri Lanka are located off the coast in the Southern portion of the country, as do several islands belonging to Indonesia.

India is the second largest country in the world in terms of population (second to only China), the 7th largest in area, and has the 4th largest economy. While over 50% of India's land is arable and 66% of the workforce is in the farming sector, agriculture comprises only about 25% of the country’s economy; manufacturing and services are the other large sectors, accounting for about 30% and 50% of India's Gross Domestic Product, respectively.
