This beautiful view of California (far left), Nevada (left), Utah (right) and Arizona (bottom right) was acquired by the MODIS on the Terra satellite on April 20, 2006. There are a number of famous features shown in this image.
Starting in the west, on the border of California and Nevada is Lake Tahoe. Half of the Lake lies in each state! A bit north of Lake Tahoe is Pyramid Lake, in Nevada. At the southern-most tip of Nevade is Lake Mead, with the city of Las Vegas spreading out to its west.
Continuing east, into Arizona, is the Grand Canyon, running east-west. The dark and white oval shape just above the Grand Canyon is the Kaibab Plateau. Just north of the Grand Canyon are two other scenic canyons located in southern Utah - Bryce and Zion.
Jumping further north, the large lake near the top-right of the image is the Great Salt Lake!
