Several fires can be seen in Greece and Turkey in this August 22, 2006 MODIS Terra image of the Aegean Sea region. Each fire is shown by a red dot - smoke from them is very visible.
The one in the center of the image, south of Thessaloniki, is a large foreis south that forced thousands of people to evacuate the area on August 21. The racing fire actuallly forced people to the coastline of the popular tourist area, where many were evacuated by boats.
