This MODIS Terra image shows Greece and the countries that surround it, on December 15th, 2006 - a nice clear day. The black borders on the image denote the boundaries of the countries. Greece and its islands is in the center of the image. To the north, west to east, Greece is bordered by Albania, the the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, and Bulgaria. To the east, and across the Aegean Sea, Greece is bordered by Turkey.

Greece is a hilly and mountainous country, with many small islands - around 3000 of them! The Greek mainland is separated from the lower Peloponnesus peninsula by the Isthmus of Corinth. The capital city of Athens is visible near the bottom center of the image, as a gray patch right on the coastline.
