Snow in the Northeast

Credit: Jeff Schmaltz; MODIS team; NASA, Posted on: Monday, 19 February 2007, 06:34 CST Download full size image

On February 3, 2007, snow blanketed the New England area of the United States, as well as Ontario, Canada. This image was captured by the MODIS on the Terra satellite. The edge of the snow line is quite distinct, passing through parts of Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Jersey, and Maryland. In central Pennsylvania, the rectangular state near the bottom left, the curves of the Appalachian mountains are visible, with snow tracing their shapes.

There is a quite a bit of cloud cover in the region, which blends in slightly with the snow. The clouds are partially obscuring the Great Lakes, near the center left part of the image.
