Fires in Brazil

This image of Brazil was captured by the MODIS on the Aqua satellite on August 25, 2007. Every red dot in this image represents a fire. Most of these are probably agricultural fires people have set on purpose to clear forest or manage grazing and farmlands.
Fires in this region are common, particularly in the dry season, which runs until around the end of November. The rainy season begins in January.
