This image shows a large fire near the Virginia/North Carolina border. A red dot marks the location of the fire, and there is a large white smoke plume. This fire is the McPherson Road fire - this fire started on Sunday, February 10, 2008 when strong winds blew a tree onto power lines. The ensuing wildfire spread eastward quickly, due to the high winds. By Wednesday, it had burned about 2300 acres.
The brown region to the left of the fire is where the state line is - north of the state line, in Virginia is Lake Drummon, visible as a small black dot. South of the state line in North Carolina is Dismal Swamp State Park.
Also visible on the image are the Appalachian Mountains, near the top left of the image. The DelMarVa Penninsula is at the top right of the image.
