Shkikoku is one of the four main islands of Japan. The smallest and least populous, it is located south of Honshu and east of Kyushu. This image of it was captured by the MODIS on the Terra satellite on September 9, 2008.
Shkikoku has dividing mountains that run east-west across it. The more narrow northern portion, which is on the Inland Sea, is more populated and contains all but one of the island's major cities. The southern part of the island faces the Pacific Ocean and is more mountainous.
