The Trans-Siberian Railroad

Delicate as a spider web, the thin black lines that are the Trans-Siberian Railway stretch across the snowy landscape in this image, captured by the MODIS on the Aqua satellite on March 29, 2009. The Trans-Siberian Railway is a network of railways that connects Moscow and western Russian with the Russian Far East provinces, Mongolia, China, and the Sea of Japan.

There are two thin black lines running across this image west to east - they appear to converge at some point just out of the frame to the right. The top black line is likely the Trans-Siberian Railway, with the bottom line being the historical line between Moscow (to the east, out of frame) and Omsk (to the west, also out of frame). Both railway lines converge in Omsk. You can see a map of the whole Trans-Siberian railway here. Omsk is not far from the border of Russia with Kazakhstan. Part of Kazakhstan is likely visible towards the bottom of the image, with the Ural Mountains running approximately north-south towards the left side of the image.
