Hurricane Bill over Nova Scotia

Hurricane Bill spent a few days in late August traveling up the eastern coast of the United States. On August 22, 2009 the storm skirted the mid-Atlantic states and New England, causing a great deal of rainfall from the outer bands of the storm, which were overland. By August 23, the storm had moved further north to just over Nova Scotia. This image was captured by the MODIS on the Terra satellite on the same day. The storm took down trees, flooded roads, and caused a loss of power in Nova Scotia, though it didn't appear to cause much serious damage.

Hurricane Bill was, however, expected to greatly impact Newfoundland. Fortunately the system was downgraded to a tropical storm before it hit. Little damage was caused, and the storm veered off to the east.
