This image pictures the three members of the Benelux Economic Union (The Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg) in the center of the image. On the right, western Germany and near the bottom, the north of France, a region that encompasses one end of the Channel Tunnel, linking Calais to Dover, only 38km but separated by the North Sea. In the north of Belgium, along the River Schelde is the port of Antwerp, Belgiums main port and handling most of the transit traffic from and to France and Germany. About 75km more to the north, there's Rotterdam and its harbour, probably the worlds biggest harbour. The overall area is quite developed and industrialized, and the dense road and waterway network are heavily loaded.
