Credit: Credit: Jeff Schmaltz; MODIS team; NASA, Posted on: Friday, 23 April 2004, 06:00 CDT Download full size image

Streamers of pale dust sweep out over the Mediterranean Sea from North Africa's Sahara Desert. This image, acquired on April 10, 2004, by the Aqua MODIS instrument, was taken over the Libyan coast and the Gulf of Sirte. The patch of green on the right is vegetation running along the northern face of the al-Jabal al-Akhdar plateau; the region is rich in ancient Greek and Byzantine remains.
