Fed by multiple waterways, Brazil’s Negro River is the Amazon River’s largest tributary. The mosiac of partially submerged islands visible in the channel disappears when rainy season downpours raise the water level. This image was acquired by Landsat 7’s Enhanced Thematic Mapper plus (ETM+) sensor. Image provided by the USGS EROS Data Center Satellite Systems Branch as part of the Earth as Art II image series.
