Snow and Fires in NW

The lowering temperatures of advancing autumn bring snow to the mountains of Oregon and Northern California in this true-color MODIS image from November 5, 2004. The green stripe of the Coast Range contrasts with the arid brown interior, and red dots mark the locations of where MODIS detected heat signatures - likely from small fires. In the upper left corner, a streamer of fuzzy white clouds streaks southwest to northeast over a deep blue stripe of the Pacific Ocean.
