Southern Scotland

Southern Scotland and Northern Ireland encase the Irish Sea and North Channel with emerald-green shores and craggy tan highlands. This true-color Aqua MODIS image from April 25, 2005, seems to have a light veil of smoke or dust drawn across it that makes Northern Ireland seem slightly blurred. Lough Neagh and Strangford Lough in Northern Ireland are both a deep sapphire blue, while clouds of lighter blue-green sediment swirl through the open waters between the two islands.
In the far north of the Scottish Highlands, a lone red dot marks the location where the MODIS instrument detected a fire (likely agricultural in nature, judging by its location and lack of smoke). Riding the border between the Scottish Highlands and Lowlands are two major cities - Glasgow in the west and Edinburgh in the east, both parallel to each other between the Firth of Clyde and the Firth of Forth. Belfast, on the opposite island, makes a more condensed grey spot at the peak of Belfast Lough.
