Sweden Country Mosaic
January 17, 2006
This Medium Level 1 Resolution Imaging Spectrometer Mosaic (MERIS) was acquired over Sweden (Kingdom of Sweden), a Scandinavian country located in the North Europe. It is bounded on the north and west by Norway, on the northeast by Finland, on the east by the Gulf of Bothnia and the Baltic Sea, and on the southwest by the Skagerrak, Kattegat, and Oresund straits. Due to its morphology, Sweden is known for its vast forests and wild mountains. The southern part of the country is mainly agricultural, with an increasing percentage of forests that cover the territory towards the north. Stockholm is the country's capital and largest city, while Gotland and Oland are the two principal Swedish islands.
