This Medium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MERIS), shown the city of Sao Paulo (large bright brown area center left on the image), located in the southeast of Brazil.

The city is situated between the hills of the Serra Guasta on the Piratininga plain. The Tiete River, Separates the city of Sao Paulo from the city of port di Santos, located to south on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean. Sao Paulo is extended along great part of the coastal region of the southeast of Brazil.

Today Sao Paulo is the most populous city of the South America and one of largest in the world, and all the trades and financial traffic is concentrated there. In the upper right portion of the image (light brown color area), along the coast, near the entrance to Guanabara Bay, the city of Rio de Janeiro is located.
