San Francisco Fires

This Medium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MERIS) image was acquired on 12 October 2004 over western California.

The image shows the areas of the San Andreas Fault (top left) and the Central Valley (border right). Along the coast, are located the cities of San Francisco, Oakland and San Jose, lie along the Bay of San Francisco and San Pablo (large bright/gray areas).

To the northeast in the Sacramento Valley, lies the city of Sacramento (bright/gray area).

Fires are visible to the north of Berryessa Lake, where smoke from a number of fires is readily visible as prevailing winds carry it westward. This lake, with Clear Lake, can be seen in the center image north to San Pablo Bay.
