This Envisat ASAR radar multicolor composite image is focused over the city of Osaka, Japan (large bright area), located on the main island of Honshu, at the mouth of the Yodo River on Osaka Bay.

It is the third-largest city in Japan with a total area of 221.30 km and a population of 2.7 million inhabitants. It is also one of Japan 's major industrial centers and ports. Visible landmarks are: the Osaka International Airport (dark area in the northwest part of the city), the Kansai International Airport (rectangular artificial island off-shore in Osaka Bay ) and the bridge over the Akashi Strait .

The image is made of three ASAR images acquired on different dates and assigning a color ( RGB ) to each date. Dates of Acquisition: Red : 30 June 2004, Green : 20 August 2003, Blue : 17 March 2004
