Mumbai, India

January 18, 2006
This ASAR wide-swath multitemporal color composite image is centered over Mumbai, India (bright area lower center image). It is located on a peninsula on the island of Salcetteon. Mumbai used to be on seven hilly isles and when the isles were merged to form a monolithic island, these hills were razed and used to fill the shallows. Partly because of this, some parts of the city lies below sea level. Mumbai is spread linearly along the Arabian Sea coast and southwards along the Mumbai Harbor, one of the world's greatest natural harbors.
