Indus Delta, Pakistan

January 19, 2006
This Medium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MERIS) image shows the course of the Indus River through Pakistan, discharging sediment into the Arabian Sea.

The vegetated area along the river lies in stark contrast to the rugged mountain terrain to the west and the Thar Desert in India to the east. Along the coast to the west of the Indus Delta lies Karachi. The MERIS bands used to create this image, were chosen so to pick up the contrast between land and water and complexity of the delta could be observed.
